Dixon schools get a boost on land sale (The Reporter)

The California Assembly voted 76-0 Tuesday to approve a bill by Assemblywoman Lois Wolk, D-Solano, to allow the Dixon Unified School District to sell 105 acres of surplus farmland to help the district resolve its current fiscal crisis. Over the past several months, Dixon Unified has cut more than $2 million from programs and staff, closed an elementary school, eliminated its home-to-school

A trek toward fitness (The Reporter)

Kids at Vacaville's Alamo and Cooper elementary schools accomplished quite a feat last week - beating ultra-endurance runner Paul Staso in a race across Montana. To be fair, the students did not actually travel to Big Sky Country and reach the Idaho border before the seasoned athlete.

Making History in Solano County (UC Davis)

The History Project at UC Davis and the Solano County Office of Education have received $1 million from the U.S. Department of Education to improve history instruction in Solano County public schools, where only one in three students performed at or above the "proficient" level in U.S. history on the 2007 California Standards Test.
